25/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 April at the plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament validated, by 571 votes to 18 with 17 abstentions, the provisional agreement with the EU Council on the revision of the directive aimed at facilitating access by the national competent authorities to centralised bank account registries (see EUROPE 13374/28). This revision provides for the introduction of a single point of access, and extends access to banking information to the authorities responsible for prosecuting serious crime, in addition to the Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs). From now on, information will be delivered in the same technical format. Information on crypto-asset transactions and Crypto-asset Service Providers (CASPs) are also affected by this revision. The text still has to be formally approved by the EU Council. To read the agreement: https://aeur.eu/f/byd (AD)
