25/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 22 April, Ember, an energy think tank, recommended that the governments of the seven advanced economies that make up the G7 should triple the G7’s renewable energy capacity from 0.9 TW in 2022 to 2.7 TW in 2030. It also suggests that the G7 countries recognise that there is a 0.7 TW gap between current collective targets and the target of tripling capacity and that they align their individual targets with the target of tripling G7 capacity. This could be achieved by increasing the current target for solar energy, but also by committing to drawing up an action plan (to be presented at COP29) to support the development of renewable energies in emerging countries.
