On Thursday 14 March in Brussels, the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, brought together stakeholders in the forest bioeconomy as part of the sixth Clean Transition Dialogue (see EUROPE 13358/2), targeting forest biomass production and processing activities.
Via the X social network, he explained that the full potential of the forest bioeconomy has yet to be exploited. “The question is not whether, but how to maximise this potential within ecological limits and while guaranteeing the sustainable supply and use of forest resources”.
This dialogue took place during the Bioeconomy Changemakers festival, organised by the European Commission on 13 and 14 March in Brussels, in cooperation with the ‘Young Ambassadors for the Bioeconomy’, which aims to encourage young people to take up the many challenges facing Europe today and unleash the potential of the bioeconomy as part of the ecological transition.
The Clean Transition Dialogues are an initiative of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, announced during her State of the Union address in September 2023. Publication of a final report on the various dialogues is expected just before the European Summit in April. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
