14/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 14 March, the European Parliament approved by 437 votes to 45, with 72 abstentions, the provisional agreement reached on 7 December 2023 between the Council of the EU and the European Parliament on the recasting of the Financial Regulation to better protect EU funds (see EUROPE 13310/26). The new rules require, among other things, the publication of essential information on the beneficiaries of EU funds on a centralised European Commission website. “It was absolutely necessary to increase transparency regarding beneficiaries and to lay the foundations for an information system enabling the monitoring and traceability of EU funds, adapted to the 21st century”, said Parliament’s co-rapporteur, Monika Hohlmeier (EPP, German), on Wednesday 13 March at the plenary session in Strasbourg.(BD)
