Artificial Intelligence Act – MEPs to vote on untranslated version

11/03/2024 (Agence Europe)The political compromise on legislation on artificial intelligence (‘AI Act’), reached by the European co-legislators in trilogue on 8 December (see EUROPE 13311/17), will be put to the vote by MEPs at the plenary session on Wednesday 13 March. However, as the consolidated text has not yet been translated and corrected by the EU’s legal linguists, parliamentarians will be voting on a provisional version that has not yet been validated. The so-called “corrigendum” procedure should enable the text to be endorsed quickly in order to move the process forward before the elections: the final, corrected version of the agreement will not be put to the plenary vote again but will be adopted by the Member States at the first Council meeting scheduled for April. The final text should probably come into force at the end of May. (IS)
