11/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 8 March, the European Commission opened a consultation with a view to bringing the biodegradability criteria for polymers other than coating and water-retention agents used in fertilisers into line with the provisions of the REACH regulation (see EUROPE 13325/9), which aims to better protect human health and the environment against the risks associated with chemical substances. This regulation includes a set of restrictions applicable to microplastics intentionally added to domestic fertilisers. Stakeholders will be able to express their views on aligning the provisions with the REACH regulation until 5 April, after which the Commission will use the information gathered to finalise its draft delegated regulation.
