On Monday 11 March, as part of its industrial strategy, the European Commission published a transition pathway for the agri-food industry. The document, created in collaboration with stakeholders, proposes actions to ensure that the agri-food sector - in particular the processing industry - is competitive, sustainable and resilient.
This must be done while paying attention to the remuneration of all parties in the supply chain and limiting inflation for consumers, the document warns. Sector players are also encouraged to respect the EU Code of Conduct for Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices.
The Commission intends to set up a support platform to help stakeholders implement this pathway. They will be able to submit comments and examples of good practice, as well as receive information on the latest policies adopted and funding opportunities.
The annex to the document published by the Commission lists all the European programmes that can be mobilised by the sector to implement its transition.
