07/03/2024 (Agence Europe) – As of Thursday, 7 March, the first six ‘gatekeepers’ designated by the European Commission—Apple, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, and ByteDance—must comply with the rules set out in the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Each of these six major companies had until midnight to send the European Commission a report detailing the measures taken to adapt its services [to the DMA’s rules]. The ‘gatekeepers’ must also submit a description—reviewed by independent audit—of all the techniques used to profile their consumers to the European Commission along with a non-confidential version of this report. The DMA aims to make the EU’s digital markets fairer and establishes new rules for ten core platform services, such as search engines, online marketplaces, app stores, online advertising, and messaging.
