On Wednesday 6 March, the La France Insoumise (LFI) party presented its list for the European elections, which will take place from 6 to 9 June. Unsurprisingly, the Chair of the European Parliament group The Left, Manon Aubry (French), is top of the list, followed by the Chair of the Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development (REGI), Younous Omarjee, and Marina Mesure, who had replaced Manuel Bompard, who became a Member of the National Assembly in June 2022.
A number of defectors have swelled the ranks of LFI, with the arrival of former Greens/EFA member Damien Carême, who left the Greens last October and is placed 8th on the LFI list. The former national leader of the Young Greens, Camille Hachez, is 19th on the list.
While Mr Carême’s arrival has been welcomed by Manon Aubry and the former president of the LFI group in the French National Assembly, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, there is no guarantee that the former Greens member will find a place in the Strasbourg hemicycle. At the last European elections, the LFI group managed to win six seats. According to the latest polls, LFI is currently neck and neck with the Greens, both of whom have around 8% of voting intentions. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
