Public appearance by singer Rihanna wearing Puma shoes justifies annulment of a Community design registered a few months later

On Thursday 7 March, the General Court of the European Union approved (in case no. T-647/22) the decision of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to cancel the Community design for sports footwear registered in favour of Puma in August 2016.

In August 2022, the EUIPO noted that the singer Rihanna had worn shoes showing an earlier design with the same characteristics as the registered design 12 months before the application for registration was filed.
