Highest average sea surface temperature in warmest February on record, according to Copernicus

07/03/2024 (Agence Europe)February 2024 was the warmest on record, with the water surface reaching a record average temperature compared with any month in the dataset, the European Commission’s climate change observatory, Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), reported on Thursday 7 March. February 2024 was the ninth month in a row that was the warmest on record for this month of the year. The average surface air temperature was 13.54°C, 0.81°C above the 1991-2020 average for February and 0.12°C above the temperature of the previous warmest February, in 2016.
