Digital platform workers, Belgian Presidency of EU Council confirms that it is still seeking agreement from Member States on issue of digital platform workers

On Wednesday 21 February, the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council confirmed to Member States its intention to reach an agreement on the digital platform workers directive. The issue is to be discussed at ministerial level at the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council on 11 March.

It added that if Coreper were to reach an agreement between now and then, the dossier would go to AOB on 11 March.

The Presidency will try to answer the final questions of countries that abstained or voted against the latest agreement reached with Parliament on 16 February and will make proposals to them accordingly (see EUROPE 13354/31, 13352/1). These countries - France, Estonia and Greece - have been invited by the Belgian Presidency to provide their tipping points, a source said.

It is not yet clear whether the Presidency will modify the provisional agreement’s content. In any case, the rules state that a new agreement in trilogue with Parliament, if necessary, would still be possible between now and 14 March under the so-called ‘corrigendum’ procedure, but confirmation by the EU Council, in this scenario, could only take place during the next legislature.
