20/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – The Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU is going to attempt to give the dossier on the directive on digital platform workers another—and final—shot by trying to add the item to the Employment and Social Affairs Council’s agenda for 11 March and by seeking an agreement. The idea, which is also being discussed with the European Commission, is reportedly to win over the remaining reluctant countries—namely France, Greece, and Estonia—that abstained on 16 February or that, in Paris’s case, voted against the agreement that was reached with the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13352/1). Having taken the view that the discussion with EU countries’ ambassadors on 16 February had not yet definitively closed the door on an agreement, the Belgian Presidency is expected to increase contact with these countries between now and then. Furthermore, the French government is reportedly still willing to move forward, according to one source. (SP)
