20/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – The French Foreign Affairs Minister, Stéphane Séjourné, travelled to Argentina on Monday 19 February, where he met the President, Javier Milei, and his Argentine counterpart, Diana Mondino. Unsurprisingly, Mr Séjourné reiterated France’s opposition to the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. Ms Mondino went even further in burying the EU-Mercosur agreement, expressing serious doubts as to whether it would be possible to satisfy all the parties. “Perhaps, in the end, we’ll have to split it into several smaller parts”, she said. For the French minister, the absence of an agreement between the two blocs “does not close the door for something else”. As far as relations with Argentina are concerned, “we will find other areas for discussion. We are working bilaterally on both cooperation and investment”, he said. (LM)
