21/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – The ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) confirmed the agreement reached with the representatives of the European Parliament on the reform of the Stability and Growth Pact (see EUROPE 13351/3) on Wednesday 21 February, 2 months after the agreement reached by the Ecofin Council (see EUROPE 13318/13). “Some countries have made comments, but none have said that they cannot support the text”, said a European source. The MEPs still have to approve the interinstitutional agreement at committee level, at the beginning of March, and at plenary level. If approved, the new fiscal rules will apply from January 2025.
