Research and education sectors would like Commission to better integrate their needs into evaluation and drafting of legislation

31/01/24 (Agence Europe)Eight major organisations from the research and higher education sectors have sent an open letter to Ilze Juhansone, Secretary-General of the European Commission, and her colleagues, calling on them to better integrate the needs of these sectors into the guidelines for drafting and evaluating European legislation and, in particular, the Better Regulation agenda. They are calling for a review of the EU’s innovation principle to reflect the importance of research and education in the sector. The signatories also want the impact of legislation on teaching and research to be taken into account. They expect a dialogue with education and research groups and institutions as part of the impact assessment process and want immediate action to remedy the negative effects of the recent digital legislation for the research sector.
