The European Commission announced, on Tuesday 30 January, that it had launched two calls for evidence concerning investment to boost energy efficiency.
The first is on assessing the level of EU and national funding for energy efficiency and will feed into a report expected by the end of 2024 on a proposed EU mechanism for facilitating investment, leading to a possible legislative proposal.
The second aims to obtain information on how to stimulate private investment in energy efficiency to meet the new 2030 targets, as adopted in the revised Energy Efficiency Directive (see EUROPE 13268/29). This information should make it possible to draw up a Guidance document for EU countries and market actors by the end of 2024.
These two initiatives aim to close the gap between planned investment and the investment needed to achieve the EU’s targets, by focusing on the leverage effect of public funding to attract private funding.
Calls for evidence are open until 26 February.
