On Tuesday 30 January, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced that the EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) had received an overall positive assessment, following recent independent audits of five KICs (Climate, InnoEnergy, Digital, Manufacturing and Urban Mobility) by Deloitte and White Research.
The EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities are structures designed to take advantage of their network and the expertise thus mobilised to solve global societal problems. These include climate, cultural heritage, digitalisation, energy, food, health, raw materials, manufacturing and urban mobility.
The EIT emphasises that this evaluation work has highlighted a number of successes achieved by the EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities.
These Knowledge and Innovation Communities have received positive assessments of their contribution to the EU’s sustainability objectives. Also highlighted as a success is the way in which the KICs have established their own innovation ecosystems. Finally, measures implemented to take gender equality into account are also favourably assessed.
The studies do, however, point out that some KICs are reviewing the way in which their revenues are generated.
Consultancy firms also make recommendations regarding how to retain existing partners or attract new ones. The KICs are also called upon to continue to ensure their calls are open.
