09/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 January, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, called on the other EU Member States to send more military equipment to Kyiv at a time when US aid has been blocked. “However significant the German contribution, it will not be enough to guarantee Ukraine’s security in the long term,” he explained to the media. Germany has announced €8 billion in military support for Ukraine by 2024. “This is why I am calling on the European Union’s allies to redouble their efforts with regard to Ukraine”, added the Chancellor, considering that the arms deliveries to Ukraine planned by “most” EU Member States were not “sufficient”. Mr Scholz said that Berlin had asked the EU to check with the Member States which deliveries were planned, as not all of them might be known. (CG)
