09/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 January, the French Minister for the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, announced that he had set up a committee of experts to make recommendations on the capital markets union (CMU) initiative in preparation for the next European legislature. The CMU project, launched in 2015, aims to mobilise Member States’ savings and private capital markets to help finance investment in the EU’s strategic priorities. “The CMU is often recognised as a priority in the construction of a financial Europe, by enabling a more efficient allocation of abundant savings (...) to the financing of our economy. We need to identify concrete, structuring actions that will enable us to make rapid progress”, stated Christian Noyer, chair of the committee and current Honorary Governor of the Banque de France, in a press release. The panel of experts includes a number of leaders of private and public institutions. (BD)
