08/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – The NGO Générations Futures France is challenging the extension of the authorisation of five of the most toxic pesticide active substances before the European Court of Justice, PAN Europe announced on 4 January. These include: - Chlortoluron and Tebuconazole, which have been granted a further ‘exceptional’ one-year extension pending their evaluation (this has been going on for eight years); - the maize herbicide S-metolachlor, which will be banned in 2024, but should already have been banned because of its polluting properties for groundwater; - the same applies to Flufenacet, a pesticide based on PFAS, those eternal chemical pollutants; - Prosulfocarb, a highly volatile herbicide that has been the subject of complaints for over 10 years. Like PAN Europe (see EUROPE 12989/11), the NGO condemns the fact that delays in assessment leading to authorisation extensions have become the rule. (AN)
