18/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 16 December, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, paid tribute to Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, who died earlier in the day at the age of 86. “The EU remembers the late Emir’s unwavering dedication and commitment to serving his country, even in turbulent times. He will be remembered by all who work for regional stability and mutual understanding between nations”, emphasised Ms von der Leyen and Mr Borrell in a joint press release. They pledged that the EU would continue to work to consolidate a strong and lasting partnership with the State of Kuwait and its people. Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, aged 83, will succeed the Sheikh. (CG)
