18/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On 18 December, following the damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline, the European Commission announced emergency financial aid of €800,000 for Finland from the Internal Security Fund (ISF). The money will be given to the border guards and the Finnish navy to cover expenses related to securing the area of the incident, as well as the investigation into the disruption of the Balticconnector gas pipeline, according to a press release. The gas pipeline, which links the Estonian and Finnish gas networks and gives Finland access to Latvia’s gas storage, was interrupted by a drop in pressure on 8 October 2023. The Finnish authorities had concluded that the disruption of the gas pipeline had been caused by external interference in the Finnish exclusive economic zone. (SP)
