European Commission authorises, subject to conditions, merger of biotechnology companies Novozymes A/S and Christian Hansen A/S

On Tuesday 12 December, the European Commission announced that it had authorised, subject to certain conditions, the proposed merger between Novozymes A/S, a manufacturer and supplier of industrial enzymes, and Christian Hansen A/S, which develops solutions based on natural ingredients.

In the Commission’s view, the transaction, as initially notified, would have impeded competition on the market for the manufacture of lactase using genetic modification technology.
