On Tuesday, 12 December, Saleh Nikbakht—the lawyer representing the family of young Jina Mahsa Amini, who was killed by the Iranian morality police in 2022—along with Afsoon Najafi and Mersedeh Shahinkar—Iranian women’s rights defenders, who left Iran in 2023—received the 2023 Sakharov Prize on behalf of Jina Mahsa Amini and the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement in Iran.
