06/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – Questioned on Tuesday 5 December about Danish Climate Minister Lars Aagaard’s call for the EU to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, European Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra reacted on Wednesday 6 December at a COP28 press conference in Dubai (see other news). He explained that he welcomed this ambition and that a discussion on the subject could be held at the European Council on 14 and 15 December. “But whatever happens, the Commission will be presenting a proposal by the end of January. And what I said at my hearing was that I would be proposing to the College (of Commissioners) that we also move to 90%”, he added. He then indicated that the Commission will publish a communication addressed to the European Parliament. (PLD)
