01/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – With credible reports that a minor, Hamidreza Azadi, and a protester, Milad Zohrevand, were executed in Iran on 24 and 23 November respectively, the spokesman for the European External Action Service denounced the pace of executions in the country on Friday 1 December. “The current pace of executions in Iran, at least 600 since January, is appalling”, he stressed in a press release, reiterating the EU’s opposition to the death penalty. The spokesman also pointed out that the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Conventions on the Rights of the Child, to which Iran is a party, absolutely prohibit the imposition of the death penalty for crimes committed by persons under the age of 18.
