01/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 1 December, the European Commission launched a public consultation to assess the effectiveness of Directive 91/676/EEC concerning the protection of waters against pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources and whether it is in line with the objectives of the ‘European Green Deal’. Contributions are invited until midnight on 8 March. The exercise aims to assess: - if the directive helps farmers to adapt and increase their resilience to climatic conditions, if it supports new agricultural practices while promoting the recycling of nutrients, particularly manure; - how the directive can contribute to reducing nutrient losses by 50% by 2030 in line with the commitments made at COP15 on global biodiversity (Kunming-Montreal UN agreement). We will also look at ways to simplify the process and reduce bureaucracy and costs. Go to Consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/9wq (AN)
