01/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 1 December, the Spanish city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna won the 2024 Access City Award for its commitment to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. The municipality has prioritised accessibility for people with disabilities in urban spaces, transport systems and social activities, explained the Commission in its press release. Tübingen received a special mention for its accessible urban development and its alignment with the ‘New European Bauhaus’. Łódź (Poland) was awarded second place for implementing comprehensive guidelines to ensure accessibility standards for all municipal investments, and Saint-Quentin (France) took third place for improving the accessibility of the public transport network. County Dublin South (Ireland) received a special mention for landscaped areas and play areas, in recognition of its commitment to accessible play areas. (CG)
