European Commission announces risk assessment programme for biocides will not be completed on schedule

24/10/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 24 October, the European Commission announced on its website dedicated to public consultations that the work programme for systematically assessing the risks of all active substances contained in biocidal products, which runs until 31 December 2024 and concerns substances that were already on the EU market on 14 May 2000, will not be completed on schedule. The EU institution is thus preparing an implementing regulation to extend this review programme for active substances beyond the deadline. It bears remembering that this review exercise, which began more than 20 years ago, was initially supposed to last 10 years. The delegated regulation relating to Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012, known as the ‘Biocidal Products’ Regulation, is expected to be adopted during the first quarter of 2024.
