04/10/23 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 October, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, welcomed the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) by the Armenian National Assembly the day before. In his press release, Mr Borrell called on all States that have not yet done so to accede to the Rome Statute. “Every single accession to the Rome Statute brings the international community closer to universal participation and strengthens the shared resolve to end impunity and foster a culture of accountability”, he stressed. Mr Borrell promised that the EU would continue to work to promote the ratification and implementation of the Rome Statute and the integrity of the ICC. “Armenia has joined the 123 States that have committed themselves to respecting the rule of law”, commented the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
