04/10/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 October, the European Parliament approved (357 votes in favour, 195 against, 42 abstentions) the appointment of the German Claudia Buch, currently Vice-President of the Bundesbank, as the head of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). She will succeed Italy’s Andrea Enria for a five-year term starting in January 2024. At her hearing before the competent parliamentary committee, Ms Buch promised to cooperate closely with Parliament (see EUROPE 13254/24). The European Parliament committee coordinators had previously informally voted in favour of the other shortlisted candidate, Margarita Delgado, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Spain. Ms Buch’s appointment could boost the candidacy of the Spanish finance minister, Nadia Calviño, for the presidency of the EIB (see EUROPE 13251/10). (MB)
