04/10/23 (Agence Europe) – At its plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday 4 October, the European Parliament gave the green light to a resolution calling for the harmonisation of the rights of people with autism within the EU (see EUROPE 13255/24). Submitted by Dolors Montserrat (EPP, Spanish), the text notes that the absence of a “standardised and mutually recognised status for autism spectrum disorders” complicates the movement of the people concerned within the EU. This could also prevent them from having full access to the European Disability Card (see EUROPE 13244/1), say MEPs. They also call on Member States to facilitate access to diagnostics. Finally, the European Parliament calls on the EU Council to relaunch negotiations on the horizontal anti-discrimination directive (see EUROPE 13200/28). The text was adopted by a show of hands.
