Green technology producers call on EU Council not to widen list of technologies in Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA)

Twelve associations of clean technology producers and civil society organisations sent recommendations to the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper), on Wednesday 4 October, concerning their future work on the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA). They warn the EU Council against extending the list of strategic technologies, as the European Parliament’s negotiators are currently suggesting (see EUROPE 13260/4).

We are concerned that such a widening will contradict the NZIA objectives to ramp-up production of clean technologies”, say the authors of the letter.

The Spanish Presidency of the EU Council has proposed keeping the initial annex containing the eight most strategic technologies, and this is the approach that should be maintained, according to the twelve associations.

The negotiators are calling on Coreper members to take their comments into consideration and if they did not, this would send “a strong signal to divestment in clean technologies vital for the net-zero transition”.
