MEPs oppose authorisation of two herbicide-tolerant varieties of transgenic maize

MEPs of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), opposed, on Tuesday 18 July, as they always do, the market authorisation in the EU of two varieties of herbicide-tolerant genetically modified maize imported for food use.

The first objection, adopted by 38 votes to 19 with one abstention, concerns Monsanto/Bayer’s MON 87419 genetically modified maize tolerant to glufosinate and dicamba.
