10/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 10 July, the European Commission announced that it had approved a new amendment to a Dutch State aid scheme to support renewable energy entitled “Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie” (“SDE++”). The scheme was initially approved by the Commission in December 2020, then amended in December 2021. The European Commission specifies that these changes will guarantee a certain budget to support projects in promising areas where decarbonisation is currently proving particularly costly. The European Commission considered that these changes were in line with European rules on State aid and, more specifically, with the 2022 guidelines on State aid for climate, environmental protection and energy, known as “CEEAG” (see EUROPE 12858/2).
