10/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 10 July, the Council of the European Union adopted an assistance measure under the 'European Peace Facility' worth €8.25 million to support the Ghana Armed Forces. The assistance measure will strengthen the operational capabilities of military units deployed in the Northern part of the country in order to combat and thwart armed groups and reduce their opportunities to carry out terrorist attacks, according to a Council press release. Specifically, the EU will provide non-lethal equipment, such as imaging, engineering and explosive ordnance disposal equipment, to enhance the security of the armed forces and their ability to conduct security operations “in full compliance with applicable international law, in particular international human rights law and international humanitarian law”.
