29/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 29 June, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, announced that all the EU Member States had reacted positively to his proposal for an EU envoy on the Cyprus question, “because they see the added value of the appointment”. He says that discussions on names have begun. According to the draft conclusions (https://aeur.eu/f/7sr ), the European Council is expected to call for a rapid resumption of negotiations and state that the EU is ready to play an active role, using all appropriate means at its disposal. It should also invite the High Representative and the Commission to present it with a report on the state of relations between the EU and Turkey “building on the instruments and options identified by the European Council, and with a view to proceeding in a strategic and forward-looking manner”.
