MEPs want to strengthen EU strategy for a ‘better internet for kids’

29/06/2023 (Agence Europe)The European Parliament’s Committee on Culture (CULT) adopted, on Wednesday 28 June, a motion for a resolution on the ‘European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK +) with 24 votes in favour, one against and one abstention. While welcoming the strategy, the text by Sabine Verheyen (EPP, German) encourages both the European Commission and the Member States to step up their efforts. In particular, the text is calling for more investment in digital education and in helping children who are victims of online abuse. MEPs also endorse the EPP’s call for an EU strategy against cyber-bullying (see EUROPE 13197/15). Finally, the text stresses the need to collect data and conduct research on child development in the context of the digitalisation of society at European level.
