First interinstitutional negotiations on recasting of financial regulation

29/06/23 (Agence Europe)Interinstitutional negotiations on the revision of the Financial Regulation applicable to the European Union budget began on Wednesday 28 June. Following this first meeting, the European Commissioner for the Budget, Johannes Hahn, expressed his satisfaction on Twitter at the content and effectiveness of the discussions aimed at further reducing bureaucracy, digitising the monitoring and control of the EU budget, and introducing respect for fundamental rights as a general principle for access to European funds. “It’s great that all the EU institutions have agreed on an ambitious timetable to conclude by the end of the year”, said Mr Hahn. “This would make the protection of the EU budget even more agile, transparent and effective”. The next negotiations are due to take place at the end of September, with the aim of concluding an agreement before the end of the year. (PLD)
