29/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 29 June, the members of the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE) approved the interinstitutional agreement reached on 13 June on the digitalisation of visa procedures in the Schengen area by 48 votes to 2, with no abstentions (see EUROPE 13200/22). The regulation introduces the possibility of applying for a visa online and replaces the current visa sticker with a digital visa to make the application process more efficient and improve security in the Schengen area. A new European visa application platform will also be created, which will also tell applicants which country will receive their application. The date of adoption at the plenary session is not yet known. (SP)
