03/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 3 May, the European Parliament opened its call for nominations for the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism to mark World Press Freedom Day. Awarded annually, the prize recognises journalistic work promoting the EU’s fundamental principles (the Rule of law, democracy, human rights etc.) in memory of the Maltese investigative journalist murdered in 2017 (see EUROPE 13045/25). The competition is open to professional journalists, working alone or in teams, published or broadcast by EU-based media. The winners are selected by an independent panel composed of representatives of the press and civil society and they will receive a prize of €20,000. The award will be presented in mid-October.
