03/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 28 April, Eurogas, EPSU and industriAll informed the European Commission of their willingness to enter into negotiations to establish a European framework agreement specific to the gas sector that would complement REPowerEU and the Net Zero Industry Act, in order to encourage the energy transition. “There has never been a more urgent need to ensure a just transition for workers in the gas sector and to improve the skills of the workforce”, says the Eurogas statement. This request for negotiations follows 2 years of joint efforts to carry out a study on skill needs. “This will make a difference to the more than 220,000 workers currently employed in the gas sector as the industry transforms”, said Judith Kirton-Darling, Deputy General Secretary of industriAll Europe.
