European Commission provides €790 million for military mobility

On Wednesday 3 May, the European Commission launched a call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility, which makes €790 million available for projects meeting civil and military needs along the Trans-European Transport Network.

This money should promote the mixed use of the transport system (see EUROPE 13080/25). The EU is thus accelerating investment in military mobility and supporting infrastructure projects that facilitate the transport of troops and equipment along its main transport routes.

Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine has confirmed that we must continue to improve the capacity of transport infrastructure such as roads, bridges and railways, to allow our armed forces and their equipment to move easily around the EU”, European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean stressed in a statement.

This call also responds to the measures proposed by the Action Plan on Military Mobility 2.0, which aims to facilitate the movement of armed forces in Europe.
