05/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 5 April, the European Commission launched a new public consultation on the digitalisation of travel documents and making travel easier. This initiative was announced in the ‘Schengen strategy’ in 2021 and aims to establish a common format for digital travel documents used in the Schengen area, it explained in a statement. Digital travel documents (e.g. digital passports and ID cards) can facilitate border controls and international travel and are faster to issue than physical documents. The consultation is open until 28 June 2023. A first consultation took place in 2022 (see EUROPE 13019/13). For more information: https://aeur.eu/f/67v (SP)
