05/04/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 5 April, the European Commission approved Italian aid of around €475,000 for ground-handling service providers at Sardinian airports. These providers play a crucial role in the aviation sector, which is itself essential for regional connectivity in the autonomous region of Sardinia. This measure aims to compensate them for damages suffered between 1 March and 30 June 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the travel restrictions imposed by Italy and other countries to limit the spread of the virus. As a result, airports experienced a sharp decline in aircraft and passenger numbers, resulting in significant revenue losses. The public support will take the form of direct grants. (LC)
