Brussels, 21/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – European Commission vice president for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margarítis Schinás, and Commissioner for Culture, Mariya Gabriel, welcomed the President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), Spyros Capralos, on Tuesday 21 February. On the agenda of the meeting was the strengthening of the cooperation between the association and the Commission, as well as a discussion on common priorities and upcoming world sports events. “We share the belief that the European model of sport is key to building cohesive societies”, Schinás applauded at the end of the meeting. While the characteristics of the European model of sport are enshrined in the EU Council conclusions of 2021 (see EUROPE 12844/28), the Swedish Presidency intends to assess the need to revise them, particularly with regard to representation in foundations and on administrative boards (see EUROPE 13115/16).
