21/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, indicated on Tuesday 21 February that an informal meeting of EU leaders would be held on Friday 6 October, the day after the third summit of the European Political Community scheduled for Granada. The 2023 strategic foresight report, which the Commission will adopt this summer, will feed into the EU27 discussions, he said. It will consider how to ensure that European action for social and economic sustainability underpins the EU’s ‘open’ strategic autonomy. Mr Šefčovič highlighted the expected evolution of the labour market in the medium term, when “some studies expect that some 50% of jobs today will see automation by 2025”. According to him, the European solar panel and electric battery industries will need 1 million and 800,000 skilled workers respectively by 2030. (MB)
