21/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the EU on Monday 20 February underlined the EU’s unity in its support for the total ban and elimination of chemical weapons and combatting impunity for their use. “The EU Council strongly believes that the use of chemical weapons, including the use of any toxic chemical as a weapon, by any State or non-State actor, anywhere and under any circumstances, is unacceptable and strongly condemned”, according to the adopted conclusions. These conclusions on chemical disarmament and non-proliferation set out the EU’s position for the Fifth Special Session of the Conference of the States Parties to review the operation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, to be held in The Hague in May.
