EU co-legislators have agreed on the final technical details of the interinstitutional agreement on the revision of the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS), with a view to its approval in February.
Obtained by EUROPE, this document provides the elements of the political agreement reached between the European Parliament and the EU Council on the night of Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 December (see EUROPE 13087/4).
The text will now be submitted to the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) for approval, probably on 8 February (provisional date). It will also have to be given the green light by Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), adopted in the Parliament plenary, before finally being endorsed at ministerial level.
It should be noted that the legal and linguistic experts in the European Commission and the EU Council have not finished examining the text. Minor adjustments may therefore still occur.
